About the Birdsville Big Red Bash

The Big Red Bash is Australia’s most remote major music festival set at the Big Red Dune 35km west of Birdsville on the eastern edge of the Simpson Desert. The concert site is accessible by a good quality dirt road, suitable for 2 wheel drive. If you have made it to Birdsville you will have no problems making it out to Big Red.

Big Red is the last  of around 1,100 dunes you need to cross if travelling across the Simpson Desert from the west, or the first dune to cross if you are heading west across the desert.

The Big Red dune itself, known as Nappanerica, is close to 40 metres high and makes the most spectacular natural stage backdrop in Australia. By day there are many people up on the dune enjoying the sweeping desert vista, as well as  kids (and some adults!)  surfing down it on boogie boards, or even cardboard and esky lids if they left their boogie boards at home. By night its a huge natural canvas for spectacular lighting and effects as stage backdrop.

Birdsville may well be considered Australia’s outback capital, an iconic outback destination and one that all Australians should make the effort to visit at lease once in their lives. Whether you are coming from the north, south east or west there are many outback travelling routes that lead to Birdsville, and the outback road trip is all part of the adventure. You can head  to Birdsville on one route and come back on another route, enabling you to  enjoy and explore the amazing variety of scenery and towns the outback has to offer.

The Big Red Bash is a celebration of the beauty and freedom of the outback and the desert. Big Red itself is an iconic outback landmark and destination which attracts people from all around Australia. We are proud to bring you iconic Australian artists to compliment this amazing setting.

The Big Red Bash is also a  great place to bring the kids.  The Birdsville Big Red Bash would have to be about the most kid friendly music festival in Australia. So forget about the Gold Coast Theme Parks, and bring your kids to the outback to see the real world, … Australia’s stunning outback! They will be pleasantly surprised and have a real adventure to brag to their friends about when they get home!

So come to the Bash, and enjoy a real sense of outback freedom. Set up camp for 3 nights on the dry lakebed, kick back and relax, enjoy the big blue skies by day and the brightest starlit skies by night, the beautiful natural light, the sweeping vistas and stunning red dunes, the outback hospitality and campsite camaraderie, and of course the great music over 2 days and 3 nights.

See you at Big Red in July 2017 for a true Aussie outback adventure!
